Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Bastian
After training as a toolmaker and mechanical engineering technician (specializing in design) and subsequently working in these professions, Martin Bastian completed a degree in mechanical engineering specializing in process and plastics engineering at the University of Paderborn. He wrote his doctoral thesis on the topic of plasticization and morphology development of polymer blends in extruders. He was Head of the Technology Department at the German Plastics Institute (DKI), Darmstadt, before moving to the Plastics Center (SKZ), Würzburg, in 2003. There he was initially Managing Director for Research and Development as well as Testing, Quality Assurance and Certification. He has been Director of the SKZ Institute since 2006. In addition to his duties as Director of the SKZ, Bastian has been Professor of Polymer Materials Technology at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg since 2011.
As a founding member and member of the executive committee of the Zuse Association, Bastian has been advocating for the interests of independent, privately organized research institutions since 2015.
