At present, no universal testing method exists for the quality assurance of the mechanical strength in the case of pipe systems. As a rule, destructive tests on a random basis (e.g. tensile and bending tests) are carried out in order to evaluate the weld quality. Extending the testing possibilities by non-destructive testing methods offers not only the grid operators but also the pipe-laying companies the possibility of checking the execution qualities of welded joints in situ in a simple form.
