Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Reinhart Poprawe

Prof. Dr. Reinhart Poprawe firstly studied Physics at Mainz University, continued his studies at the California State University in Fresno/California (final qualification: Master of Arts) and ended his studies with the degree at the Technical College in Darmstadt. After working as a scientific employee for four years, he obtained his doctor's degree at the Technical College in Darmstadt in 1984. From 1985 to 1989, he was a head of department at the newly founded Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology in Aachen. In the period from 1989 to the beginning of 1996, he was responsible for the business management at Thyssen Laser-Technik GmbH in Aachen. After being called to RWTH Aachen, he took over the management not only of the Professorship for Laser Technology but also of the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology in Aachen. In numerous publications and lectures at the national and international levels, Prof. Poprawe highlights new paths in laser technology. As a member of the supervisory and advisory boards, he was appointed to a large number of bodies and undertakes intensive national and international activities as an expert and adviser in the field of laser technology. On September 1, 2005, he was nominated as the pro-vice-chancellor for structure, research and young scientists at RWTH Aachen. In 2006, he became a Fellow of the Laser Institute of America (LIA).
