Dr. Mike Troughton
Mike Troughton studied at the University of Leeds (England) from 1979 to 1985, where he received a degree in Physics with Astrophysics and a PhD in Polymer Physics. In 1986 he joined the R&D Centre at BP Chemicals (Scotland), where he was responsible for developing and testing new polyolefin-based products. He joined TWI (England) in 1993 and is currently Technology Manager, responsible for co-ordinating all R&D, consultancy, technology transfer and training activities in the area of plastics. His main areas of expertise include the welding and NDT of plastics pipes and the testing of thermoplastics welds, on which he has written over 20 technical papers. He is Chairman of the BSI Technical Committee PRI/80 (Welding of plastics), the EWF Working Group Plastics Welders, the CSWIP Plastics Welder Certification Scheme Management Committee, and the Welding and Joining Society Technical Group 7 (Polymers). He is also a member of the American Welding Society subcommittees B2F (Plastics welding qualification) and G1A (Hot gas and extrusion welding).
